In San Dimas, California, Jo visits a family consisting of a 58-year-old father and a 43-year-old mother with six children: a college-going 20-year-old daughter, a 17-year-old son, a 14-year-old son, a 10-year-old son, an 8-year-old son, and a 2-year-old daughter. The mother's demanding career as a successful real estate agent keeps her glued to her cellphone, leaving little time for her children. The 17-year-old and 14-year-old stepsons view their stepdad as a burden, believing their mother outearns him.
